Anyone who takes a quick look at my read list, will quickly discover my obsession with Eve Langlais. Mostly due to her hilarious and sexy Welcome to Hell and Princess of Hell series. I read this book in the hope that my favorite characters would at least make a few cameo appearances. Alas, they did not. True, Christopher (a.k.a the antichrist. Ironic name, huh?) is getting hitched to Evangeline's sister (another ironic name, since she's supposedly so wicked)but that's about it. Dear old dad does not make even the smallest appearance. (Damn!)The romance itself was OK. I don't really think Evangeline was all that wicked, though. Who wouldn't turn her annoying ex into a doormat if she had the powers? A perfectly natural reaction, if you ask me! Ryker was suitably alpha and suitably cocky. I thought it was sweet that he preferred her real self to the sexy Glamor she projected. All in all; not bad. Fun, light, fluffy and worth reading. But not spectacular. DNF, I started this for a light insubstantial read. While some parts were amusing, and the world (what little was written) was interesting, the H/h annoyed me too much to continue. First off, Evangeline as a name for an "evil" witch? Is that supposed to be ironic? I felt like the author tried to write Evangeline as the tough, takes no *ish, brave baddass heroine that we all love in UF/PNR's. Unfortunately she fell short, like dwarf short. 1- We're told she's evil, repeatedly. By herself, by others around her, by EVERYONE but I never saw it. Yes she was bitchy, had no respect for others, and used her magic solely to benefit herself. But in the entire book (what I read) all she did was turn one guy into a rat, and another into... A grease spot... The rest was all posturing. She was all bark no bite, the bark was all lame threats and cliche comebacks. 2- She has very low self-esteem, she hides behind a "glamor" of a tall skinny beauty, when she's a short curvy girl. Its not a character flaw that gets solved, the author just moves on and never mentions how truly sick it is for her to disguise herself completely every time she went out. She's afraid of dying alone, which DUH will happen if you keep cursing your ex boyfriends. (why would you even date a women with a history of offing her exes?) Ryker (another terribly cliche name) was the better of the two, but I thought he was an idiot. So baddass... He can't stand up to his mother. Hobbies include:getting stinking drunk, crass dirty talk, and forcing matings on women. I could have finished the book because I actually wanted to know who wanted to kidnapp the girl. But when that lame fight scene happened, and the "bad guy" was defeated without us even knowing ANYTHING behind his motivations. How is that professional? What if he's just another lacky? They found out nothing (too busy humping), and killed their only lead who Might be the "bad guy" Thats when I stopped.
