First, the cover is gorgeous. :)Even though the general plot has been used before, I loved how it was given a new twist that made it an interesting read. Instead of just getting happy ever after, there were sacrifices to be made and, despite how irritating it is when the couple has this kind of troubles, I appreciated the change.Jasmine, unlike some other friend characters, was actually likeable and Lucy too. I wish there had been more time for Blake and Winter to know each other better though. Their relationship was a bit rushed because of the constant danger they faced, understandable. But they declare their love for each other, more or less, and it didn't feel very real to me, because there wasn't enough romantic build up. Winter’s Shadow is the first of three books by M.J. Hearle. The book starts with a diary entry from 1878 which links to the story. Other diary entries follow in the book to link in to modern day and to give you a different perspective. When Winter Adams meets the mysterious Blake at Pilgrim’s Lament, Winter can’t think of anything else. He had saved her life. But Blake isn’t what he seems; there is something about him, almost dark and otherworldly. When the darkness gathers, Blake is the only one who can protect her; but to do this he risks exposing her to an even greater danger – Himself.Like most YA romance books there is a guy and a girl who fall in love, but cannot be together for certain reasons; I think M.J. Hearle used this as a really good base for a story that was gripping and made you want to know what would happen next. He did a good job at making sure that you didn’t know what Blake was which although I kind of was annoyed about; I found that is gave the book another bend. The love at first site thing was a bit irritating too; Winter was in love with Blake after seeing through a window.I recommend Winter’s Shadow to YA and paranormal romance fans.
