4 1/2 StarsI knew With Good Behavior wasn’t going to be another average love story from the very first chapter when Sophie met Grant outside their parole’s office door as she is leaving, and he is coming in. They never said a word to each other, but the attraction was apparent. Sophie and Grant are fresh out of prison trying to pick up the shattered parts of their lives and start over. They continue to see each other outside of the office every week and strike up a friendship which soon leads to more. It’s no surprise that their path to happiness will not be easy. However, they have no idea how hard it will be until they discover a secret from their pasts that connects them. Not only does it threaten their future together, but it could very well threaten their lives. Will they ever be able to pick up the pieces of their past and share a life together? Can they even survive to get that chance? This book was a great page turner. Not only is this a good romance with an abundance of sexual chemistry, but it’s also a fast-moving thriller. Lane also writes her characters in a way that I felt very connected to them. I wanted Sophie and Grant to get their HEA. Seriously, if any couple in a book deserves it, it’s these two. Neither one of them have a normal family….especially Grant! You will see that not long after you start reading the book. He is truly a broken man who deserves someone to love him and help him be free from his past and his family. The scenes involving his nightmares from his childhood almost brought me to tears. Sophie has such a big heart and wants to save those she cares about, but this is one of her faults. She tends to lose sight of reality when trying to save others which can get her into trouble. Again, you will see this not long into the book. But, you can’t help but fall in love with her like all the other characters do in the book. Not only was this a great romance and thriller, but there is so much irony contained in the pages. It’s amazing how Lane connects these characters together with their pasts and how their pasts will definitely change their relationship in unimaginable ways! There are so many twists and turns, and she is brilliant in the way she shows her readers how she connects all the dots by giving them little tidbits in the characters’ flashbacks to their pasts. There is a bit of a cliffhanger, but you won’t have to wait because the next two in the trilogy are already available. Give this book a try if you want a different type of romance novel with some suspense and mystery mixed in, along with great characters both good and evil.Book 1: With Good BehaviorBook 2: Bad BehaviorBook 3: On Best Behavior***Book reviewed for Devilishly Delicious Book Reviews*** 4.5 starsI LOVE Sophie and Grant! Lane did an amazing job of making me care deeply for these characters, despite their major flaw—they’re felons. I think most people’s initial instinct is to have a negative impression of felons, but in no time, Lane showed us another side of their personalities so that, even though we didn’t know why they were in prison, we couldn’t help but feel sympathy for them and their situations. Lane clearly has a knack for creating three-dimensional characters and drawing out readers’ emotions. Another thing I really liked about this book was the realistic nature. The story gives us glimpses into prison life, mafia families, and the field of psychology, all written as though the author is an expert in each. I know Lane’s a psychologist, but I doubt she has much experience with prison or the mafia so she clearly did her research. Nothing felt forced or unbelievable. The only thing that took away from the reading experience a bit for me was the omniscient narration. I feel like if we had a more limited POV, there might have been more suspense in the story, especially when it came to Carlos and what he did. Of course, that didn’t detract from the budding romance between Sophie and Grant, which is more than enough to propel the story along! I look forward to reading more from this author and finding out what happens to Sophie and Grant next!
