Wolfsbane (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

With every book of Ronie's I read, they get better and better. Wolfsbane was great. In Nightshade, I learned about and met the men and Max's wife, Sydney, glad they got back together. Digitalis, aka Cowboy met his wife, Piper and now Wolfsbane aka Midas met his wife Danielle Roark. He also found out about a daughter with Chesa, who he thought had been killed and blamed himself. He never knew he had a daughter. And he and Danielle, had a son. Danielle also learned, she was General Lambert's aka The Old Man's daughter.I thought this week, her books are "Chick Books" men can respect. They are love stories as well as action, suspense and drama, that men enjoy. Book three of the Discarded Heroes series, this was a very intense story. Dani is an Army demolitions expert who has been captured in Venezuela and kept for six months before she manages to escape. Back home in the U.S. she is charged with espionage and treason and forced to return to prove her allegations that her captors have a hidden nuclear facility. She has vowed to kill herself if she is captured again. Midas is a former Green Beret also haunted by memories of a mission gone bad and forced to keep his mouth shut with threats of prison if he talks. He is now a member of Nightshade and part of the team that goes back to Venezuela with Dani to prove her story. I suspected who was behind Dani's betrayal pretty early so was not overly surprised when the team was discovered so quickly. Midas and Dani are separated from the others during a violent storm and mudslide but are eventually captured. Dani is returned to the person who brutalized her during her first ordeal. Midas has promised Dani that he will not return to the U.S. without her, yet when the rest of his team finds him he is forced to evacuate, leaving her behind. Weaving throughout the story is another one, an old woman's memories of another place and time, which we eventually learn is the story of Midas' bad mission, with a very interesting twist. If the fourth book of this series is as good as the first three I may have to give it six stars.
