I thoroughly enjoyed reading Words Spoken True so much that I can't wait to read more from this author! A free-thinking, spirited woman with a talent for writing in a man's world falling in love with her enemy surrounded in suspense and mystery as they work together to find "whodunit"...and it doesn't end with a wedding! I always hate it when books end with "I do" because life sure doesn't end there, but rather it's just beginning! This is the first book I have read from this author, but I will definitely check out the rest of her titles. :) I enjoyed this book. But I first want to say that I do not recommend it for young women, especially single women. I found this book to be very dark and violent in it's themes. Riots, civil disorder, and murder. Also, there is a scene or two with a newlywed Christian couple that my daughters would NOT want to read. It is true. These things happen in this world. And, things do work out in the end. But, I don't recommend this book for unmarried young ladies. Those who don't mind the violence and are already married would probably like the story. Since it has real historical basis for the story it makes it interesting to me. I liked it. I read the book in 3 days and that was not reading all day long each of those days. The book kept my interest. Even after I was sure I knew who the “river slasher,” the murderer, was. I had to keep reading and find out what happened with the characters. What happened to the murderer. Did he get caught? It is so hard not to give away anything. Some characters I liked from the first. Some I distrusted. Some I hated. Did I turn out to be right??? I sure did. I knew it. But I had to find out HOW things played out. That is what makes a good book. If I knew everything I could have just stopped half way through... but I couldn't I HAD to read more and find out.There were some redeeming characters in the story. Some Godliness to balance the evil and make this a Christian fiction. Here is a quote to show you... It's my favorite from the book and it really spoke to me as well. I need to believe that God hasn't turned his back on me and is there to help me through my struggles. “I'm telling you so that maybe you can understand how the god Lord keeps on reaching down his hand to help you even when you think he's forgot about you. Worse than forgot you. That he just plain don't care....” “It pains me to admit it, but I shut my Bible tight and turned away from the Lord...” “Adriane's eyes went to the Bible Beck kept on his worktable. “I've never known a time when you didn't read the Bible.” “That's just it, Addie. A feller might turn away from the Lord, but the Lord, he don't turn away from you. The good Lord, he just waited me out. Kept on walking along beside me. Understanding. Knowing my hurt. And after a while, I felt his hand on my shoulder again....” “....So what answer does he have for me?” “I don't know, Addie. But I know he ain't turned his back on you. He's gonna help you find a way.... You just keep on praying, and with the good Lord's hand on your shoulder, you'll figure it out. The right thing.” pg. 178So, if you like Christian mystery books, suspense, murder; than this is a book you, too, will enjoy.
