What do You think about Öyle Bir Geceydi Ki (2014)?
I'm making my way through a bunch of gift books. I'm pretty sure people give me books that they don't want to keep, because most of them are wildly out of my comfort zone. Since it's good to stretch I give them all a shot. Sadly some just don't work out. That's the case with Christmas, a cute book that just chafed my brain. The writing was fun and the scenes were almost instantly enjoyable. At first glance it didn't suffer from pert miss syndrome, that particularly overblown style of historical romance that drives me up the wall. So I settled in for a good read. Sadly I didn't even make it to 50 pages. The setup was so tragic (a boy abandoned as a child) and the way of dealing with it was so frustrating (the heroine lies to the hero- said abandoned child- to make him visit his estranged mother) that I couldn't continue. The heroine just seemed like a jerk, assuming the worst of the hero because he didn't act in a way that she thought was appropriate. When fact doesn't line up with her opinion she decides the problem is that he's still a jerk and not that her actions were out of line. Plus the hero is the old stalwart- a titled noble (an earl) with an attitude problem and a tragic background. I don't even read historical that often and I'm tired of this trope. So yeah, it goes on the pile of books to get rid of. Luckily I didn't put that much time into it.

Overall a great read; especially since I'm not a big fan of Christmas motif romance. This still turned out really well with just a bit extra formulaic Christmas stuff as expected. My biggest issue was I had trouble relating or understanding dowager Lady Devonmont's reasons from keeping the truth from Pierce after his dad died. Or perhaps I understand somewhat, but don't agree with her decision to keep the truth from Pierce.Camilla and Jasper were both very sweet characters.

Um, awful, right down to the preposition after being capitalized in the title on the cover.
