I spend the afternoon in a semi-panic, just thinking about it. I could never go through with it if it wasn’t for Jodie and Nell. After school, we meet again to go to the drama studio. As Jodie predicted, the place is deserted. We leave the door ajar and head inside to wait. The time ticks by: 4.10. 4.15. Just as we’re starting to wonder if Michelle has simply decided to ignore me, Jodie puts a finger to her lips. We hear the sound of high heels on the tarmac outside. Michelle is not known for her sensible footwear. She is also, thank goodness, alone. I have no idea what we’d have done if she’d shown up in company. She pokes her head round the door, searching us out in the dim light. She’s all glossy locks and big eyelashes and total innocent surprise. ‘Hello? Sasha Bayley? Can I help you?’ I step forward, into the shaft of light from the open door. Jodie and Nell step out behind me, like henchmen. This could totally be a scene from an action movie.
