You Have The Right To Remain Silent (1993) - Plot & Excerpts
Paul wrote three books about Marian Larch before this one, but this is the first in which Marian's love interest Curt Holland appears. I first read this book probably about the time it was published, in 1992. I very much enjoyed it and the following three Marian Larch books (especially the last, Full Frontal Murder). There's nothing remarkable about the plot or the dialog, but I do like Marian, her gang of police friends, and her relationship with actress Kelly Ingram. Curt Holland does not come across as a very likable guy, and it's fun to watch his relationship with Marian unfold over the four books. I really enjoyed the big climax in this book as well, with three cops battling over a gun next to a man wired with a bomb.Reading this book now, I enjoyed Holland's abilities as a super computer guy, who can navigate behind the scenes of computer systems. Wow, computers have changed a lot over those years! And Marian doesn't even have a home computer. If you like well written police mysteries with interesting characters and a fair bit of action, you might try Barbara Paul's Marian Larch series.
