Not as 90s as I had hoped or as Eleanor and Park. I thought the characters were different and interesting. It didn't feel cliched. Their relationship felt real despite the strange circumstances although towards the end I felt a bit less interested. I'd definitely recommend if you like stories about best friends, love, and finding yourself. It reminded me if Eleanor and Park a bit, so that's a good connection, too. Set in the 1990s, this novel by first time author Christina Moracho covers many issues- longtime friendship, coming of age, distant parents and the unique illness, Kleine-Levin Syndrome which involves sleeping for long periods of time and waking up weeks later with no memory. This is not a tame novel and is for upper high school student because of the sex and drinking. Maybe new adults who were teens in the 1990s will find this book interesting and relateable.
