My reaction to this series went a little something like this: Episode 1: "Aww, this is really cute."Episode 3: "NOPE. NO. THIS ISN'T CUTE ANYMORE."My favorite thing about this series is that is takes everything good and pure about magical girl stories and twists it into something dark and honestly horrific. The art is beautiful and the story in itself is tragic. It's probably one of my favorite anime series, and after watching it I had to read the manga. I'm excited to read the next two to see how it differs from the anime! I am a huge fan of the original anime adaptation of Madoka Magica and I find myself really enjoying the manga too. The art style is lovely. I personally loved the manga interpretation of the witches - some have got cuter while others have got even more terrifying than their anime counterparts (Charlotte anyone?).Perhaps my one gripe is the pacing of the plot. Some scenes from the anime are cut out but while nothing essential is lost, it does feel as if the story moves along almost too fast.
Turning the magical girls genre onto the darker side. Don't be fooled by the cover. GREAT READ!
