52 Reasons To Hate My Father (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

52 Reasons to Hate my Father is a fictional book about trying new things, overcoming challenges and most of all, finding yourself. I loved this book because at times it was very funny but it also was relatable even though I have nothing in common with the main character. The way she looked at the world and her perspective about certain things really drew me in, and that was probably the reason why I enjoyed this book so much. The main character is an eighteen year-old girl named Lexington Larrabee and she has never worked a day in her life because her dad is a billionaire. However, one day when she gets in a lot of trouble her dad disciplines her by making her work for a year by taking a different low-wage job every week, under the supervision of a college intern her dad assigned to her. Throughout the book she learns that money isn’t everything and relationships with people can make you a better person. She understands what is is like for “the help” to not have attention or regard. I genuinely liked this book and would recommend it to a classmate. Lexington Larrabee was someone I would clearly hate, because she was so stuck-up. I thought that the book itself would be something worth hating, but I was wrong. So very wrong. I love how Jessica Brody was able to create supposedly shallow characters (like Lexi at the beginning of the novel) into people with great depth. She would have had a choice to make Lexi forever shallow, and instead revel in her spoiled brat nature. But I'm glad that she wasn't like that in the end, or at least she realized that she wasn't, but more because she was EXPECTED to act like a spoiled brat. I liked that insight about her character, because most people are misunderstood that way. You expect something from someone, and you sort of insist on that expectation, when it is actually quite the opposite. That's why I stopped believing in stereotypes too. You can't really box people in, because humans are meant to be complicated. I also liked that twist about her dad because you can't really expect him to end up like a vapid, unfeeling character forever. I mean, he is on the title, so there must have been something more at least. And that twist gave the dad justice, so much justice. This book actually gave me inspiration to write my first positive entry into my blog later on, so it's good. I won't talk about the book further than this (save the rest of the insights for my blog). All I wanna say is it's super adorable, the characters have depth, and it was well-written. Gave me the tingly feels too!

What do You think about 52 Reasons To Hate My Father (2012)?

I really liked how she had never worked and then, when she had to, he character changed a lot. It was also funny and adorable. Probably one of the best YA books I've read. If you are looking into reading this book, I highly suggest it!
