Around Valentine’s Day Riptide was giving out free codes (via tumblr) for various books they published. Well, this is the book in which I received a free code for.I sure am glad I was given the opportunity to read this novella. It does a fabulous job of introducing intriguing MCs and the world they live in. Giving you just enough to become truly invested in the MCs and wanting to continue their story.I cannot wait to read the next installment and see where Liam and Daniel take me on their journey. By itself this is more of a 2.5 to 3 star book. Since their is another book in the series I rated it more for the world building and story set that is done. This book is basically an info dump on the world and how it works. The world's dynamics and character back stories and interwoven together in such a way that I wasn't bored or confused. I loved the mix of cyber and vampires along with the dark underworld and assassins. Liam and Danial are both interesting characters and they have a great history although it isn't explored in a more emotional way where we can see the feeling they had for each other. The fact that they quickly turned their feelings around seem more than a little unbelievable, but since their relationship isn't the primary focus of the book it didn't bother me as much as it normally would.Overall I really intrigue with the world but the relationship aspect falls pretty flat. I also feel as though this shouldn't have been divided into two books. This had a very abrupt ending that was obviously not the ending or even a great stopping place for the story.
3.5A good read. I think I'll read the sequel as well.
