A Christmas Odyssey. Anne Perry (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
An interesting plot about an unlikely band of strangers trying to find a prodigal son lost in the underworld of Victorian London. But it has very little to do with Christmas, aside from the dates of their search. And the tale itself is repetitive, dull and confusing, with an unfortunate focus on by far the least interesting and most irritating of the searchers. Only at the end does the plot flare up and find resolution in a compelling way. Not Perry's best work, by any stretch. This is a prodigal son story, which goes into a very deprived way of life. A father asks help from a friend in trying to find his son. The friend seeks help from a woman who is helping bring people out of such lives. A friend of the woman, doesn't want her to get involved with what he knows she would be up against, and so he joins in the search, asking another friend for assistance. They search in the underground tunnels of London, and see terrible sights. This was not my cup of tea. It was thankfully a short book.
