A Different Kind Of Normal (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I laughed aloud at some of Tate's blogs, the triplets' antics and the mom soap star actress. From the most unlikely cadre of characters, Lamb spins a poignant and powerful story of family, loss, forgiveness and love. A heritage of witchcraft is woven into stories about the underground railroad, neuroscience is folded into hospice patients who see angels and dead relatives, love is enveloped in addiction and professional roles, basketball is scrambled up with awkwardness becoming confidence. Yes, Jaden's love life progresses insanely fast, but given the quirky complexity of the other characters I can overlook it. I LOVED this book!! This was my first read by Cathy Lamb and I will definitely be reading all her books at some point. I laughed out loud, I shed tears and just devoured this book, not wanting it to end. You will fall in love with Tate!! A boy, born deformed, abandoned by his birth mother, raised by his aunt. A heart warming story about family, over coming life's obstacles and about how important it is to live life to its fullest and to treat others kindly, even when they are a different kind of normal.
