A Favored Daughter (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This was a very interesting book about one child/teen/woman's experiences in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mujaheddin civil wars, the Taliban and the attacks by the US and NATO in 2001 and the attempts to establish democracy in Afghanistan as well as the resurgence of the Taliban in current times. Her description of the corrupt government system in Afghanistan is basically a judgement of most of the western democratic governments as well. How amazing can one woman be given the circumstances she has been given? Such an amazing woman. This book was written in such a laid back way and between her memoirs and stories and explanations of culture and religion she writes letters to her daughters or mother and they are so insightful and emotional. Very brave woman. This should be required reading to understand Afghanistan and to get some insight into Islamic religions and culture.

What do You think about A Favored Daughter (2000)?

self serving and poorly edited - I have read better accounts of that troubled time.
