The Pearl Wars( Sky Ship Academy) by Nick James takes place in 2095 where the cities are relying on "Pearls" that powers the cities. These pearls falls from the skies occasionally. Without them the cities would die so the search for Pearls is on. The story switches from the two protagonist, Cassius and Jesse. When they first encounter eachother, something trigger from them and they started getting unusual abilities. Also they started getting side effects. For example Cassius started getting headaches and seizures. When he return to his room, he then explodes into fire. Jesse is the type of character who does his best to find these pearls, even if he knows he is not the best at doing so. Without a family, he feels alone but he will still try his best. Cassius, like Jesse, feels the same way. They both struggle to discover who they really are. But they both have the same goal.. To find the pearls. There are many other side characters that make this book so much better. For example, you meet Avery in the book. Avery is Jesse kind of only friend the only person Jesse trust. For example, Avery help Jesse spy on some person to find out what is really going on about Jesse. Avery is pretty much Jesse only trusted person. Later in the book something happens between the two of them but it is for you to find out.. If you are into fast pace, plot twist, sci-fi book, this book is for you. Doing a series reread to reviewI'm not done in my reread but there's something I came to realize in my thinkingTo startI do NOT like AveryI looked at her as useless and nothing more than a love interest and the catalyst in the storyI hated she was viewed as the action girl to match the hero when she didn't fight much if at allBut while I thought I realized while she didn't fight she did play a rather vital role past being the catalystShe was a bit of a voice of reason for JesseShe didn't quite keep him in line but she directed him and helped him to get through everythingShe saved him though not much through fighting but getting him out of the train and the likeShe's smart and takes care of JesseI may not be the biggest fan of Avery but I do have more appreciation for herLoved side character(s): CASSIUS (my child!), Eva, Skandar, and Alkine
