4 talented authors come together to write a historical novella that revolves around the lives of people in Dry Gulch, Texas in the late 1800's/ We are introduced to 4 incredibly strong women who must learn to put their faith and trust in someone if they want to overcome the obstacles in their path.Clara has learned over the past 20 years that a woman carrying Comanche blood in her veins couldn't depend on anyone helping them. After loosing her parents and marrying a no account Matt Danvers she didn't feel things could get any worse. Wrong! Suddenly she finds herself a widow, pregnant and being pressured by her father in law, a wealthy land owner, to give up her child to him. when Neil Archer shows up, hired by someone in town to make repairs to the homestead the sparks begin to fly.Grace has been a school teacher, but with the gradual loss of her eyesight suddenly is dependent upon the goodwill of others. The board wants to put the her in a house in need of repairs and will bring her meals each day. Grace knows that complete blindness is inevitable and wants to become acclimated to her environment before that happens. After a discussion with friends she has decided to search for a husband, but what kind of man want to marry a blind woman and how will she know that he's trustworthy?Lucy lost her mother at a young age and recently her father. Unfortunately her father made some bad investments so after paying the bills she finds herself penniless and dependent upon the goodwill of others. Lucy's father raised her to be a genteel woman and therefore she lacks any domestic skills. How will she provide for herself? Pastor Eldridge may have the answer. she can become a companion to elderly Martha Simms, but must travel to North Folk, Texas. Upon her arrival in North Folk not only does she find out Martha is not really looking for a companion, but also there's a mystery she must help solve.Lastly is Hannah Taylor, a young woman who has experienced my tragedy in her life. With a mother who's very weak and sick a lot she has become a substitute mother for her siblings. She has two sisters already married and would one day like to marry and have a family of her own, but between teaching at school and trying to raise her siblings where will she find the time to meet a man. Suddenly her mother dies in childbirth and her life is changed forever. Her father quickly remarries and Hannah finds herself without a home or family. Each story involves faith and courage. I enjoyed reading the novella. A wonderful collection of stories that I would recommend to anyone. I really enjoy reading Karen Witemeyer which was the main reason I purchased this book. It was great to read about Neil Archer but the story ended way too quick for my liking - I wanted more!!! I really enjoyed the 2nd story about Grace and Clayton too and didn't want it to end. I didn't mind the story about Lucy and Andrew (it never ceases to amaze me how quickly some characters can fall in love!!!) but I really thought the last story about Hannah and Mark was just plain silly. Other than Hannah I just didn't engage with any of the characters. In my opinion this final story let the whole book down (which is why I only gave it 3 stars overall).
What do You think about A Match Made In Texas (2014)?
