A Universe From Nothing: Why There Is Something Rather Than Nothing (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
What started as a fairly interesting look at new ideas about the big bang quickly degenerated into a tirade about atheism that failed to engage the arguments of the other side in favor of triumphal declarations which were poorly supported. Personally, I am neither an atheist nor a monotheist, so I don't really have a horse in the race here, but the book both failed to establish that its position is correct and failed to live up to the premise of its title. There were some interesting bits here, but unless you really enjoy atheist arguments that theists are just WRONG (in a book that is ostensibly about cosmology and admits that there is no reason to rule out deism), there isn't enough draw here to make it worthwhile. Heel interessante these. Ik had al wat gelezen over de ideeën rond spontaan ontstaan van virtuele deeltjes en over de oerknal (beiden zeer goed en toegankelijk beschreven door Stephen Hawking in zijn boek) en verwachtte dan ook veel, vooral wat meer diepgang in dit boek. En die heb ik gemist. Misschien heeft het te maken met het feit dat Krauss geen wiskundige formules heeft willen gebruiken in zijn boek. Blijkbaar bestaat er een regel dat de verkoop van een boek met een factor 10 daalt voor elke wiskundige formule die erin staat, zodat wetenschappers door de uitgever onder druk worden gezet om dat deel achterwege te laten.Ik vrees dat hier net dat deel essentieel was om dieper te gaan dan een mijmering over het ontstaan van het heelal.

a good book.. but it is somewhat scientific.. I hope I understand about 30% of what is in it.:)
