A Zeal Of Zebras: An Alphabet Of Collective Nouns (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
Grownups and children will have fun learning the funny, odd, or surprisingly appropriate names for groups of animals. From ‘an Aurora of polar bears’ to ‘a Zeal of zebras’ this book is full of amazing facts about animals along with gorgeous illustrations. Did you know that a group of giraffes is called a journey? I can’t believe it…and I won’t stop believin’ it ;)I recommend this for use in the classroom, 2nd through 4th grade. Very interesting ABC book for your inquisitive preschoolers and up! I learned new terms for groups of animals (collective nouns), like a hum of bees and a caravan of camels. Beautiful illustrations worthy of framing, if you are so inclined. The new and more difficult words are embedded in very readable paragraphs, so it doesn't turn your little one off, yet gives you the opportunity to build vocabulary. I loved hearing and reading these words to my 5 year old; domesticated, migration, solitary, abundant, forage, ornamental. A nice addition to our home library.
