About A Dragon (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

This story was amazing. G.A Aiken is a fabulous writer. I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard while reading a book. Arrogant Briec was brought low by Chatty Talaith. And the surprise Ms. Aiken added to the story just blew me away. I had no idea it was coming, but I loved it.I found the way Ms. Aiken brought in the other characters and interwove them into the story to be intriguing. Mixing the familiar with the new. If you're searching for a tame book, then About a Dragon is not for you. It's not a ‘sweet’ book by any stretch of the imagination. If you want a story that will keep you up at night reading, then get this book. You’ll end up reading the whole series, like I’m in the process of doing. (And wanting a dragon of your very own.) I loved this book. I love the quirky humour and sassy characters. Brilliant and a must read if you like shifter stories!Synopsis:Talaith's life has never been easy. A goddess has forced her into servitude. Her husband despises her. And all those in her tiny village fear her. But just when she doesn't think her life can get any worse, she's pulled from her bed one morning to be burned at the stake for being a witch. What she never counted on was a terrifying silver dragon deciding to rescue her.Briec the Mighty didn't really know what to do with a human female. Especially this one. Chatty and a bit of a complainer, he doesn't understand why she can't simply admit to herself that she wants him. Who wouldn't? He was Briec the Mighty after all. Females fought to spend the night in his arms. But this one tiny woman with her many secrets and her annoying habit of referring to him as "arrogant" has turned his simple dragon life upside down. Despite the fact that this book had all (or most of the elements) that I like best in a romance -- dominant, likeable hero, strong-minded woman, fantasy, DRAGONS who are the good guys (mostly), at the beginning I found that the book didn't pull me in as hard as I thought it would with all the aforesaid elements. The more I read, however, the stronger its pull became, until I found it unputdownable. I also loved the extended family element and that the story didn't only follow the main characters, but also followed secondary characters. I suspect that I will be rereading this book and revising my review upwards to four stars.
