Accidental Leigh (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Author Melanie James never seems to let me down! This book has just the right amount of funny/romance to make this book and series a MUST READ! Leigh loves her book boyfriends as much as the rest of us! One day after the death of her ultimate book boyfriend she decides she wants to give writing her own book a go! She found a free little desk to do her writing on and little did she know that her world was about to be turned upside down! Who knew that trying to help your friends would end up so mixed up? This will have you laughing until you cry! I can not wait to read the next book and find out what The Witches Union, local 1313 have to say about the messes she has created!Quotes from the book that stuck with me!"Ok fine, Carl. I would rather stay at home and masturbate than go out with you!""Are those bananas flying though the air? No, those are fingers, except for those two. Those are severed penises"How many time have you heard it from your friends? You know, the "disclaimer." Those usually start out with, "Well, at least he can hold down a job." "Sure, he's no Chris Hemsworth, but atleast he doesn't live in his parent's basement." And sometimes they get downright desperate. "Well at least he didn't have to blow into a tube to start his car." The worse one I've heard someone say about their boyfriend was "you can barley notice the ankle monitoring bracelet" I love a good lighthearted paranormal read so naturally I was immediately drawn to this book. The cover caught my eye first and the blurb sealed the deal. I was hooked in the very beginning, instantly falling in love with this quirky woman (Leigh) who was a school teacher by day and smut writer by night. I could definitely identify with her love of books and the devastation she felt after her beloved book boyfriend in her favorite series was killed off its author. The story moved rather quickly giving it a rushed feel. I love a quick read just as much as the next person but I don't want to sacrifice content for it. A little more detail given at a slower pace would've made this a definite 4 star read. Why not a 5 star you ask? Well without giving away too much info I have to say I was a smidge disturbed by the subject matter of Leigh's very first magically drive story. It was a bit awkward and maybe that was the authors intention but I wasn't feeling it at all. Otherwise I have no issues with the writing, i's obvious Ms. James is talented and good at what she does. So despite not having loved Accidental Leigh 100% I still may follow through with the series. I have books 2 and 3 on my Kindle already so it wouldn't hurt to see where it goes. I would recommend this one especially since so many people seemed to love it, and aside from the points I mentioned above I did enjoy most of it.
