After The Prophet: The Epic Story Of The Shia-Sunni Split In Islam (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
No single book could do justice to the entire history of the split between Sunni & Shia Islam...but this outstanding volume comes very, VERY close. This is a wonderful distilliation of a pivotal time in the entrenchment of not only past grievences, but also present-day troubles that continue to complicate life throughout the world. Political, social, and theological history, told with masterful conciseness. This book is simply awesome, though it contains some uncertain - i don't want to say wrong stories - stories, and few nuances and fewer wrong arabic words such as, the author used the word Ghrayba as Occultation of Imam Mahdi while it is Ghayba (Ghrayba is a dessert). Some stories of Ashura are not very precised such that Sayyida Zaynab and the survived family members of Hussein, marched enchained to Kuffa while, they have been detained and marched enchained to Damascus, and one of Hussein's Daughter Khawla was dead dehydrated And exhausted in Baalbeck during their marchs.Regarding the history and the interpretation of the Sunni-Shiite split, i think that the author did a magnificent effort.A must read book, for everyone around the world, to know the true values of Islam that the People OF the House defended till their last breath.

An interesting read. A bit biased and leaning towards one side. But paints a good picture.
