What do You think about Against All Things Ending (2010)?
I have somewhat enjoyed the Thomas Covenant series, and thought I'd catch up. I admit to being somewhat disappointed. The characters spend the first 100 pages, literally, arguing about what they are going to do next. That's not a small amount, even for a long book.Donaldson is very fond of both long and obscure words, and he uses them a lot. I'm all for a good, if not better, vocabulary, but this is actually distracting at times.Couple that with despair, depression, and random, violent character deaths, and it's really just not an enjoyable experience. I was also surprised to learn that, while the last two series were trilogies, this was book three of four. I must admit, I did not really hugely enjoy this one, and I say that as something of a fan of the other two trilogies.

I started my love of fantasy with Lord Fouls Bane, my first fantasy book as a teenager in 1979. And I am amazed at how profoundly these first books shaped my thinking. I still occasionally compare verdant growth in the summer to Sunbane ( when the poison ivy gets out of hand!). But having said that, the last 3 books are getting harder and harder to read. I have a specialty in Autism, so Donaldson' s character development was somewhat interesting to me. However, Linden's emotional trauma, or in other words drama, was way over done. In fact all the inner dialogs, of all characters, was over the top and unfortunately ultimately pointless.

It really is time for it to end but still a great ride.
