Albert Of Adelaide (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I have just read this book again because I love it and I know this won’t be my last time reading it.Albert is a platypus fed up with his life in Adelaide Zoo, he manages to escape and we see Albert make his way through a tough wild west, bang bang shoot em up outback Australia with the help of some unlikely friends he meets along the way.A Platypus is extremely out of place in the center of Australia and Albert gets into a lot of mischief with his friends, which of cause makes for a very entertaining, funny and enjoyable story. But the whole book isn't fun and games, there are some deeper moments Mr Anderson managers to hide in there, through the inter-species friendships, alcoholic bandicoots and some rather spiritual Dingoes.Howard L Anderson writes a fantastic story and you can’t help but fall in love with his characters, you will want to read it time and time again. This is a book that took me from 'I am not sure I like the story' over 'there is something missing' to 'Oh, why did I wait so long to read it'. Reading the story of Albert's search was a discovery for myself too. Not in the spiritual sense but in getting deeper and deeper into the story, discovering the Australian Outback and the recognising Australians in the various forms of the animals.I love how Albert is making discoveries about himself. How he gets into situations - nearly without his own making - and how in the end a near villain turns into a near hero, never forgetting about friendship and mate ship.At times I felt that the author could have been more descriptive for the scenery and the various animals. After all, not everyone picking up this book will have been to Australia or seen Australian animals. But after reading more and more I realised that it would have distracted from the story itself.I loved his characterisation of the dingos - for me they symbolise the Australian Indigenous and their struggle of maintaining their culture and survival.

What do You think about Albert Of Adelaide (2012)?

Ein ganz nettes und teilweise absurdes Buch, das gegen Ende ernster wurde, als es am Anfang war.
