The torch on the wall is still burning brightly, coating the room in its warm glow. I have lost all sense of time since we entered the cave – it could be early morning or late afternoon – but it doesn’t matter. I’m resting on top of his naked body. He’s big enough for me to lie on whole, and I rise and fall with every breath he takes. I lay my head down upon his magenta chest, and hear the gentle, rhythmic thumping of his heart. It makes me feel safe. Protected. Even here, miles underground with ferocious bear-men waiting outside, I know he’ll always keep me safe. I trace his scar with the tips of my fingers, careful not to wake him. It frightened me at first. Coupled with his intimidating height and bulging muscles, I thought he looked like a savage barbarian, ready to sweep me off my feet and carry me off into some cave. In the end, that’s what he did. He swept me off my feet, carried me to this cave, and conquered me, body and soul.
