Well, I kinda feel sorry for her. LOL She is such a good, sweet, kind girl, who is also kinda of a wall flower at school. She has some crappy friends, just saying. And then WHAM, she gets in a horrible car accident. Well, she is supposed to die, but instead, the government transplants all her organs, gives her all these crazy operations, and in return she MUST become a vampire hunter. Her mother signed over her rights when she chose to let Aurora live. I do not like her mother. I like her father even less. And though I thought Aurora was a little boring at first, I totally wanna high five her for going all rebellious when she can't get out of the contract her mother signed for her. Even though she is hanging out with the less savory people at school, they are actually nicer and more concerned than her best friend for years. Aurora is strong, I'll give her that. I don't know if I would have handled things the way she did. And I do not like her bosses, but I do like Dante :) That's her mentor to train her to be a vampire hunter. And the vampires aren't like we think of them now. they are still somewhat human, it's complicated. And though Aurora had some really strong moments, sometimes I found her being a big baby. Like really, you're not gunna loose it over what happened with the government, but you're going to get all crazy and pissed off over something really petty. Hmm, thank goodness it only happened a few times :) Fane, well, he reminds me of the damn Twilight's Edward. He's cooler, in the fact that he is the bad boy, but it's still so similar. Oh wah, she's human, and her blood could hurt you, get over it. LOL. Yeah, I like the more blunt up front guys than the whiney self angst guys :) But other than that, I think he's going to be interesting now that things are changing a little. See, there's a little problem with Fane, and someone else is calling in that little problem. You'll have to read to know. :) I liked this book overall, and I really want to know what's going to happen next. And I hope some more ass kicking comes along. :) I definitely say if you like vampires, this one will make you happy. And though they are teenagers, I don't think it's just for young adults. Almost anyone will like this one. Ok, with that 4.5 PAWS! I wanna go read book two now :) Aurora Sky is a high school senior with dreams of heading off to college in the lower 48. She loves the beauty of Alaska but wants to escape the intense cold of the climate and the depressing winter darkness. When a Car accident nearly kills her, she is miraculously brought back from the brink of death when her distraught mother agrees to a secretive government deal. Aurora awakens to discover her personal dreams shattered because now she will become a Vampire Hunter with an assigned territory in Alaska. Her new toxic blood makes her immune to the vampire poison, too bad her heart is not as protected. This engaging book is unusual in that Aurora is a reluctant Vampire slayer. She is exceptionally angry that her plans and dreams have come crashing down around her. Her mother bears the brunt of her tantrums. With her father mostly absent, Aurora’s resentment against her plight simmers just beneath the surface of her snarky, sarcastic exterior. The 2nd book in this series is available and I will be reading it, too, as I believe the world-building begun in this book is fresh and fascinating. This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review.
