Aus Der Stille (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Sebastian is a volunteer officer who gets paid, he's deaf and hard-willed and his supreme talent of lip-reading allows him to be an asset to the police department.Jordan has moved because he got shot on the job, and he meets Sebastian at his partners poker night. In all honesty this story is beyond ridiculous, a police man who craps himself because he got shot on the job, enough to make him move to another city and to a whole different department, makes me really suspend belief for this. I get trauma, and yes the author points that out (here and there) that Jordan hasn't really gotten to grips with his shooting. However, a police officer and I think he was in homicide a detective at that - just makes me go 'huh'. Talking about Jordan he was an awful character. I have no words other than he made me feel uncomfortable and reminded me a lot of those jerks in high school Hollywood films.Sebastian was nondescript, this book was written in the first person, so we didn't get to read much about Sebastian. All we got from creepy Jordan was he was so "sweet", had a "sunny personality", and was incredibly "white". The author's need to keep saying he was white was beyond weird. The reason why I'm rating this even a one star is because of Bro and Jack. They saved the story for me. Bro is Sebastian's little brother and Jack is Jordan's little brother. Bro is 15 coming on 16 in this book, and Jack 24 and a paramedic out in L.A. I was actually hoping for a Jack x Bro story (when he got "older") because these two had SO much chemistry. Instead we got a Jack x Kevin (Jordan's partner) love story. That came out of NOWHERE and I was left going WTF for the rest of the book.I really didn't like this book, the story was okay but the main characters were so boring it hurt. Bro and Jack were great until I personally felt that Jack x Kevin storyline ruined it for me. It seemed in this story everyone hooked up with a magical one look. There where sweet moments in this book a lot when it was about Bro and Jack. However, I still don't understand the Jack x Kevin thing, and no offense but Jordan was creepy and Sebastian boring. Great banter between the main characters toward the beginning. Picked this one up based on novelty, since I haven't run across any mm romance with a deaf character. Wish there'd been more development on the hearing impairment and its influence upon the romantic relationship. The book had a lot of potential conflicts, but there wasn't a lot of struggle involved in clearing them. Conflict popped up randomly and faded in the path of least resistance. Everything was shiny and bright with new love, characters were all instantly best pals, etc etc. Entertaining read, but it didn't really hit the spot or fulfill my deaf mm romance character curiosity.
