As a book geared toward children, I feel the concept and images might be very confusing for younger ages. I would probably recommend it for ages 8 and up. The illustrations are really beautiful with incredible colors. I checked this out of the library because I have a strong interest in birds and always appreciate a beautifully illustrated picture book. I'm glad I read it but I didn't feel compelled to show my kids (who are 18, 16 and 12 but all still appreciate a great children's book when we find one that stands out). I just had the feeling they would find this odd and even a little disturbing. As an adult, I appreciated the author's message and am certainly disheartened to think of a world without birds. A uniquely disturbing picture book about the future extinction of the bird species. Since 2031, Aviary Wonders has provided customers with the opportunity to order and assemble their own bird. This picture book is the order catalog with intricate drawings and detailed information about everything concerning the anatomy of birds. However this is more than a catalog of body parts, this is clarion call to a possible future.
No great target audience for this one, but a unique idea.
