In their 2nd adventure, the Walker family has returned as wealthy owners of the magical Kristoff House. Money has not solved all their problems however, and as Brendan, Eleanor and Cordelia struggle at their new school they are quickly sucked into another dangerous magical adventure through the books of Denver Kristoff. The siblings must battle: a crazy emperor in a Roman Coliseum, cyborg Nazis, and frost beasts in the mountains while trying to find a way back home and defeat the evil Wind Witch. The action is non-stop, sometimes defies any logic at all and the pacing leaves little room for meaningful character development. However, that non-stop pace will appeal to some readers, and will adapt well into a movie – perhaps this is what the author, director Chris Columbus, has in mind. This one was less engaging then the other one but still had that fun, light, doesn't make sense but let your imagination run wild kind of vibe. I can see it's set up for another sequel but this one ended on a more "finished" note and seems to remain less dark of a cliffhanger. It'll be interesting to see what other books are brought over, though I'm not sure I'd want another sequel with the kids stuff in three books, having characters like Queen Daphne cross over and try and conquer San Francisco and having the rebels come stop her/meet up with Brendan again would be cool. This sequel is a shadow of the original but still maintains that fantastical meshing of worlds.
What do You think about Battle Of The Beasts (2014)?
I personally found myself enjoying the first book more, but it was great nonetheless!!!
