Present Day Saturday Courtney was prepared to argue with Max right there in the middle of Marissa and Trace’s wedding reception, to tell him to go to hell, but the next thing she knew, he was pulling her along behind him as he headed down the long, narrow hall of the lodge. “Where’re you goin’?” she hissed, trying to keep her voice down so that others didn’t hear her. She had no idea who was lingering in this part of the spacious resort that did everything from family reunions to weddings, but she didn’t want to draw attention to herself if someone was. “Somewhere private,” Max said, his tone cool and calm. “Max! Damn it,” she huffed. Rather than continue to argue, because she knew it was futile, Courtney did her best to keep up with Max’s long stride. After they ascended a set of stairs to the second floor, he ignored several closed doors as they traversed the long hall.
