Best Vacation That Never Was (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
This was an average book, it was light and fun. But, it lacked some depth. At the end of the story, I'm not convinced that the heroes can withstand a fully committed life together, because the seven days they spent living together weren't used in any way to build a strong relationship. They spent their time having sex, and there's nothing wrong with that. But, it leaves me doubtful that it can last. With all the adrenalin rushes they experienced, their feelings could be confusing. They seem to have nothing in common with each other, except their mutual lust. Speaking of lust, it seems that the story was written around the sex scenes, just to fill the blanks. And, as much as I like hot sex scenes (and I really do), there needs to be a complete and worthwhile story, good characters with good chemistry. Without at least one of those components, the book leaves me empty. One of the only redeeming qualities of this book is the characterization of the heroes. But it wasn't enough to ignite in me more than a passing interest. The title alone was enough to pique my interest. Then there were the people that couldn't say enough good things about it. Of course when I read the story description I was sold... and so very glad that I bought into it all.If you're looking for high adventure; thrills, chills & spills; death-defying actions... well, maybe not. Then again....There is the death-defying and hanging-on-by-his-fingernails...literally...frightening experience for poor Troy as he loses everything, except his life... oh and a bathroom towel, in a terrible fire. Then there's an extremely heroic and very sexy firefighter, Jason, who rescues aforementioned wall-clinging-to-save-his-life Troy. But most of all if you're looking for a fun yet wonderful romance this is the book for you!And there's a lot to be said for dreaming and doing what you can to achieve said dream... but hanging onto a dream that's going nowhere; well suffice it to say this story works very well indeed.
