Then, after some time, the fear of her leaving under duress became the mounting anxiety. They spent their days with each other. When the man walked to the stream, she walked with him, her hands clasped under her protruding belly. ‘This here,’ the man said, pointing to the slough. ‘This was where I decided this was a good nuff place to settle.
