Beyonders The Complete Set: A World Without Heroes; Seeds Of Rebellion; Chasing The Prophecy (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I liked Brandon Mull's world of Lyrian very much. It was not a superficial world and went much deeper than I expected. But I found the lack of emotional connection to the characters and the events made it somewhat hard to get through. Granted it is written for thirteen year-olds, but I don't see that that has anything to do with it. Jason is a likable hero and Rachel, too. Jasher is probably my favorite. It seemed to me, though, with all the references to our world (movies, etc.) made it kind of hard to believe Lyrian was real. A much younger person probably would have enjoyed far more than I, but "A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.” ― C.S. Lewis. It lacked a more emotional content. But even then I can think of reasons it was emotional, spoilers though. It might have just been presented in an unemotional way. Good story, the ending was surprising. Nothing was too easily overcome, and I appreciated the depth of his writing for the age genre. It was not written in a silly, teenagery way, but used large words with eloquence and took it for granted you were intelligent enough to understand what they meant even if you weren't sure of the entire meaning. SPOILER ALERT! The Beyonders is a fantasy book that is about a boy name Jason a normal kid that plays baseball for his school, and a rich Girl named Racheal that is homeschooled and is smarter than the average teenager. These two teenagers find themselves trapped in an unknown world. Jason is swallowed by a magic hippo that somehow leads him to an unkonwn land called Lyrian, and the only way out is to destroy the evil Maldor. Maldor is a tyrant that has controlled Lyrian forever. Along the beginning of his journey he meets Racheal and the Blind King. Jason and Racheal are supposedly supposed to help the cause to destroy Maldor and turn Lyrian back into the peaceful land it once was. Jason later finds out that Racheal also came upon Lyrian by mistake. She was hiking with her family and walked through a stone arch when she suddenly appeared in Lyrian. Racheal and Jason go on to meet a special people called displacers that work for Maldor as highly skilled spies. They become good friends with a displacer named Ferrin who betrays them but then comes back to help Jason and Racheal. This book is filled with a mix of people and animals from zombies to elves and magical beings, both good and evil. I really have liked these two books, there is one more coming out in November, which will be the last one. I highly recommend these books to anyone that wants to read it. It was very entertaining with it’s fights, arguments, and magic. Again, I recommend this book to anyone. It was very entertaining and I can’t wait for the next one to come out. If you don’t like magic and swords and stuff like that, then I wouldn’t read this but if you do, I hope that you find it as good as I did.

The beginning confused me but at some point in the middle, it all makes since.
