Big Wig: A Little History Of Hair (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
An amusing romp into the history of hair. Brief, unusual facts that leave you wanting to find out more. One notable fact for me: 450 tons of hair are exported from India; much of it landing in Hollywood. And where does this Hollywood hair come from? Why, from pilgrims in temples of course.... hmm... Of all the lengths folks have gone to doing up their hair, if I ever had to emulate any one of them, it would have to be Frida Kahlo - who apparently spent hours and hours tweaking and making up her do, adding flowers, ribbons, and the like. She also pulled it until it hurt which I will not do. Interestingly, they don't give too much attention to bedhead- one of my favourite looks to sport. Tragic, that. A fascinating history of hair and why we wear it like we do...or why people have worn it like they have all the way back to ancient history. Covers no only a great expanse of time, but also cultures from all over the world. Each page has a discussion of hairstyles of the place/time along with a colorful illustration. A simply fascinating book that kids will want to pick up over and over again. Gr. 2+

Disappointed because I really like Krull's writing. This book was just not her best.
