Biting Bad (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Absolute Leseempfehlung. Freaking cliffhangers. Damn lucky I have the next one waiting for me at work, otherwise I would be one ticked off reader… The book was a little slow for me to get into, but that was mainly due to outside influences rather than the book being bad. This was actually an action packed contribution to this long-standing series. I loved the movement in the McKetrick plot line, somehow I still think we probably haven’t seen the last of him. We also had a lot of development with the GP and was thrilled to see one its members get what they deserved. Was shocked about what happen with Merit’s Grandfather and am suspicious of her father, although the scene with Merit’s family including Ethan was a lot of fun. I also have high hopes for Mallory’s future and he being a productive member of this society. There is also some hints to Merit and Ethan’s relationship taking a next step. Not sure how I feel about it. I think they are fine how they are, no need to change what isn’t broke. Then again a big marriage might be fun and a good setting for lots of vampire drama. One more book and then I need to take a break from the series. Think it is about time anyway, I need to take a breather from this world for a while. While I still enjoy the series, I’m not as excited as I was a few books ago. This tells me it is time to read something else.

What do You think about Biting Bad (2013)?

Chloe Neill has excellent taste in cars and music and knows what's really important (FOOD). This is the book I've been waiting for in the Chicagoland Vampires series. This book truly showcases Neill's talent as a storyteller. This book is filled with political maneuverings, crime solving, real relationships with real feelings, and imperfect vampires being generally imperfect. Just because you become immortal does not mean you grow a newer better brain, and while it does give you many more years to grow wise with experience, I enjoy seeing how Ethan, Merit and the others make mistakes and learn from them. Merit is newly made and while she does seem to be a prodigy it was nice to see her take some hits and we'll deserved losses in this book. I like the humanitarian (and just plain human) side we see of all the vampires in this book when tragedy hits. This is by far the best book so far and I hope the quality continues indefinitely. Biting Bad took this series from fun and exciting to realistic and heart stopping and I can't wait to read more.

I'm starting to feel pretty let down by this series. It had a pretty solid beginning, but I don't feel like it's grown into itself well. Although I like the characters, I don't always find myself very connected. Although I rooted for Ethan & I like him, he confuses me sometimes. An almost 400 year old vampire really shouldn't be afraid of mere humans. The vampires in this series are just not...vampiric enough, I guess. There is much to like, but it's not enough to rise above the plethora of UF out there.
