No one on the sidewalk batted an eye at the two men as they rejoined the small crowd of people. Jacob might have appeared outwardly calm, but one only had to put a palm over his heart or focus in their hearing to discover its furious pounding. He was forcing his breathing to remain relatively quiet even though it made his lungs burn. This time, the tension between them was sharp and heavy with what had just transpired.
