Book #3 of the Library Lover's Mysteries... Residents of Briar Creek are divided when a salvage company comes to town, with hopes of finding buried treasure on Pirate Island. Local tourism director, Trudi Hargrave, wants the island opened up for excavation. Lindsey's friend and library board president, Milton, is dead set against the dig. Her downstairs neighbor and musician, Charlie, has signed on with the company to help dig up the treasure. Lindsey's weekly “crafternoon” book/craft club is interrupted when Milton and Trudi go toe to toe in the library commons. Threats are made before Lindsey can calm them down. The salvage company has a map that supposedly belonged to Captain Kidd and is said to show the location of Captain Kidd's buried treasure on Pirate Island. However, when Lindsey's boyfriend and boat captain, Sully, finally gets a look at the famous map, he discovers that the salvage company is looking at the wrong island. The treasure is depicted to be on Ruby Island. Ruby island was the scene of a grisly murder thirty years earlier. Mr. Ruby killed his wife and children on the island, which is rumored to be haunted. The treasure hunt has just begun, when the body of Trudi Hargrave is found on the site. At the same time, Lindsey's ex-fiancé shows up in Briar Creek, convinced he can win her back. At times, Lindsey's character makes some dis-jointed remarks and actions, but a good read, all the same. It's more of a 2.5 because it falls into the did we really need to provide this much romantic conflict?Lindsey the Librarian and the rest of the town face pirate fever when a tourism official arranges for professional treasure seekers to check one of the outlying islands for Capt. Kidd's buried treasure. The tourism official is a nasty bit who ends up dead and suspects include yoga loving senior citizen and ladies' man Milton and Nancy's nephew, Charlie of the get rich schemes. We also have Lindsey's ex showing up and of course John now wants her back. The weakest of the books so far.
