Sasha just can't get a break. The last battle with Trek's men left her homeless, thanks to Charles leaving a candle burning when he rushed out of her apartment to save her. Stefan has set her up with lodging, income, and schooling to learn how to control her magic. She could be a great asset as her level of magic is extremely rare, but she needs to learn to control it. The only access that she has to it now is in life or death situations and it's not predictable at all. Sasha struggles with each class, even more so with Darla's. Darla is all but promised to Stefan and wants Sasha no where near her man. She refuses to teach her. Stefan assigns Jessiah to her in order to help her achieve the elements with one on one help. Charles is very wary of Jessiah. Since her last near-death experience, Stefan has tried to keep his distance from her. He almost marked her, a practice his people no longer partake in, and he took advantage of her in a weakened state. He feels like crap because of it and refuses to bind her to such an awful man, in his opinion. Things get too great for her to deal with, Sasha becomes withdrawn and depressed. She seeks solitude and there is only one place on the compound that can provide it. She ditches Charles and seeks out Stefan's private rooms. After Charles alters him of her disappearance, he finds her through their link. He confesses his feelings and what he did to her. She's not mad, they actually have sex as two consenting adults this time. Slowly, Sasha begins to feel a little better. She's getting better with elements and sword-play, but not chanting and runes, Darla's specialty. This turns to be her demise. Stefan realizes that he cannot be without her and no one shall ever touch her besides him. He feels lust slip through the link and in a rage he seeks out the man who he think is touching his woman. Turns out, it's Sasha. He takes her and fully marks her although she doesn't know what this means yet. He begins spending every night in bed with her. It looks like things are finally working out until Jessiah moves forward with Andris's plan to kidnap her. She doesn't know where she is and can't communicate it to Stefan. Can he get to her in time before Trek has the opportunity to touch or drain her? Continuing with the Darkness series, Breene takes us with Sasha and her growing relationship with Stefan. As she struggles to control her magic and feelings, she encounters new friends and villains that you want to know more about. I wish these were not novellas but full length novels, with characters more developed. But this is a testament to how much I am enjoying these books, and want to read more. Still graphic in content though not in a disturbing way, I laughed out loud in places and enjoyed the fast paced action.
