But I Wanted a Baby Brother is the story of a boy named Oliver who wasn't happy that his parents brought home a baby sister instead of a baby brother. Him and his dog Chaplin set out on an adventure to find a baby brother instead. Oliver wanted to trade in his sister with someone else's baby brother. The story is comical because he thinks that at the zoo where is says "change babies here" means that you can trade out your baby for a different baby. He searches and searches and realizes that he's not going to find a baby brother anywhere. Eventually what feels like forever his parents announce that they're having another baby. He can't wait to finally have a baby brother to play with. Until his parents bring home a baby sister. Again. The adventure the Oliver and his dog Chaplin go on make the story interesting and funny because of the crazy things they do to find a baby brother. It's silly and kids would get a kick out of this book because they know that you can't just trade in a baby for a different one. The illustrations in his book aren't the most realistic looking, they're just okay but it's the words in the story that make the book funny. This would also be a good book to read aloud because there is a lot of expression in the book. The author writes the book so that there are some capitalized words and there's also a lot of dialect in the book that keep it entertaining. I enjoyed this picture book with its wonderful funny illustrations. I know how Oliver feels, although I wanted a baby sister instead of a brother. I just think its so funny how he goes out and tries to find a new baby brother everywhere, from the park to the zoo, but no one is good enough. After a year, Oliver decides his sister isn't so bad and can do things with him now. And then he gets another sibling...
This is perfect for any little boy that wants a brother but gets a sister.

Very cute, fun illustrations, and the older sibling isn't a brat.
