By Jerry Weintraub: When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead: Useful Stories From A Persuasive Man [Audiobook] (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
I couldn't put this book down. It felt as if I was sitting across from Jerry Weintraub himself, and he was just telling me a story. It read like a conversation, and when I put the book down, I felt as if I had learned something else about a dear friend although I have never met Weintraub and probably never will. The book is filled with his successes, but I also would've liked to hear more about any failures he encountered and how he learned and grew from them as an individual.Overall I highly enjoyed the book, and I have highly recommend it to everyone who has talked with me since I read the first page. I heard of Jerry Weintraub for the first time through his own book. The man, from his words, promoted the likes of Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, produced movies like the Oceans' trilogy, Karate Kid, guest-starred in others, was a buddy of George Bush Sr. and organised fundraisers for politicians. In between, he dabbled in theater, discovered and launched many a star, and hung out with people with CVs more remarkable than his! However, it didn't long to notice him once I heard of him. He happened to win an Emmy this year for Behind the Candelabra. On first name basis with everyone in showbiz, I guess. Also, kind of a dick (street-wise),and judging by his narrative, highly instrumental in his success.
