I did not read the first book in the series and therefore was lost when the story suddenly switched to Adam's story without warning. Cons: I do not like stories about child abuse and there is some in here with some violent detail...SO I skipped that part, literally stopped reading those sections. I ALSO stopped reading Adam's story (the second love storyline in the book) and focused on Grace and Daniel. Pros: Even though I read only 1/2 ish of the book I WAS impressed with Grace's innocent character! Way to go author! She is seventeen and had NO idea basically how babies come into the world and I was like FINALLY! A girl that is NOT worried about a wedding night or anything because she does not know. What a refreshing change to a romantic story. Instead Grace focuses on being a great mom for the kids and cannot figure out why Daniel is such a moody mess (Poor Daniel). Again, I am not a fan of abusive storylines... I didn't really like the repetitiveness of the details about the children too. I thought the book began a little slow but I wanted to finish it as I enjoyed the first book in the series, Petticoat Ranch. I don't know if one should give 5 stars to a book that starts slowly, but it sure finished with a bang!! I love Connealy's sense of humor in her writing and I enjoy the innocence of the adult characters and their morality. She's written quite a few books and I will definitely be reading more of her trilogies. Gingham Mountain, the 3rd book in this series, is out of print and had to buy it for my iPad. I much prefer turning paper pages.
What do You think about Calico Canyon (2008)?
love!! I plan to read this one again... and again... and again.
