Camp D'isolement (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

Pokud vás série zaujala a vy jste došly až k jejímu závěrečnému dílu, můžete zpozorovat, jak velkou Emmy Laybourne ušla cestu. "The Savage Drift" is the thrilling conclusion to an intriguing and suspenseful YA dystopian series and begins with eleven of the survivors of Monument 14 finding a haven at the refugee containment camp in Quilchena. But as her friends begin to feel safe and cared for, Josie Miller who went O on purpose saving everyone from a deranged killer, has been incarcerated in a concentration-like camp at Mizzou where she's being terrorized by a violent gang and a brutal guard. When Niko Mills discovers the girl he loves is alive, he wants to go to Mizzou to save her. Dean Grieder and Jake Simsonsen not wanting to face danger again try to dissuade him, preferring he follow procedures for having her transferred to their camp. When the USAMRIID becomes interested in Astrid Heyman's pregnancy and wants to run tests, her two protectors join forces with Niko to escape the Canadian refugee camp and search for Josie. Told from Dean and Josie's perspectives the plot follows two strands of a story that converge in an exciting conclusion. In a third novel that vibrates with adventure, emotional tension and action Dean, Jake, Astrid and Niko set out on a cross country journey that has them facing the "drift", a poisonous black cloud that turns type O's into lethal killers. The landscape of the containment camp for O types is darkly treacherous as prisoners are attacked for the least infraction and Josie begins to lose hope when every day holds another challenge in her survival. In a plot that's not only captivating but emotionally mesmerizing fifteen year old Josie has erected a barrier against any kind of compassion or warmth for Lori and the other children Mario Scietto has taken under his wing. Fearing for their safety in a hostile environment where she's continually attacked by those who want her dead and where she could be sent to a government installation for testing Josie's stress escalates until she begins to break. Yet for all the violence, heartbreak and tragedy in this story, there are strong elements of love, friendship and deliverance. In the refugee camp the children are optimistic about a future that could see them reunited with their parents especially the mechanically gifted Alex Grieder who writes a letter explaining the events that led up to the survivors of Monument 14 being housed in Vancouver. Loyal and affectionate, he's suddenly devastated by the news that Dean is going with Astrid, Jake and Niko to save Josie. Dean Grieder is resourceful, brave, understanding and supportive but at times jealous and competitive with Jake when it comes to his girlfriend Astrid. Pregnant with the government wanting to test the growth of her unborn child, Astrid tends to be emotionally unpredictable and high-strung. Although in love with Dean, she continually seeks out the father of her child who's a drunk with attitude problems. Unreliable Jake Simonsen wants to protect Astrid for selfish reasons, but with a strong dose of reality will pursue his own desire.Among the core characters are also antagonists like Ezekiel Venger, a malicious and heartless guard, a bully who has taken an adverse dislike to Josie and Mario, but all the personalities add fire, drama and power to this tantalizing and chilling tale.I thoroughly enjoyed " Monument 14: The Savage Drift" with a climax that was unexpected yet richly satisfying. I recommend it to all those that like a strong blend of dystopian adventure and romance.

What do You think about Camp D'isolement (2014)?

A disappointing end to an engaging trilogy. Needed less boy angst, more Josie and Astrid.
