Cavale (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

All I have to say about this book was that it was AMAZING!!! I loved the authenticity of every moment and how even in the end, everything was connected. I was grabbed from the beginning and stayed up late many nights to read just one more chapter because I couldn't stop myself. The cover made it look like a complete romance novel, and it's NOT. it's much more than that. I bought the book because I was encouraged by a friend to buy it because she said the cover and blurb looked good, so I bought it. I sat on my shelf for a few months because I was afraid I would be disappointed by a cheesy romance novel, but instead I adored it. Every single character had their own little story or history. Each one had so much depth that almost seemed real. It turned from a boy forbidden to see anybody because his father was a psychotic fugitive to a point where it was just two brothers trying to survive a life or death situation. I really like to stick with dystopian, but this definitely extended my reach to other books like this. A great book about connection - sometimes it's automatic; sometimes it never happens. Elements that made this a great book: great characters -- the "good guys" had you routing for them, and the "bad guys" had you hoping for some justice, which came at the end and was satisfying without being over the top. There was not a great sense of place, but the book was paced nicely, and the part set in the National Forest did make you feel like you were there. There was a certain charm about this book. It made you laugh, cry, think, get angry, and gave you hope in the humanity of people. An excellent book for both YA and adults.

What do You think about Cavale (2012)?

Teens will really like this story. Two boys, Sam, a teen and Riddle, a tween, spend their lives moving from town to town with their off-kilter and dangerous father. Emily is a naive 17 year old who by pure chance meets Sam and they quickly fall in love--but Emily doesn't know the true story of Sam and his life.As Sam and Riddle adjust to hanging out with Emily and her family, they begin to understand how wrong their lives have been but how can they escape? Part love story, part adventure story this is a good choice for reluctant readers, boy or girl.

I really liked this book, and recommend it to people who enjoy romance, comedy, and thriller books. It's not really about any major action. It's written like a series of events happening one after the other with no apparent link between them, except the same characters are present. Each mini-story is written from a different point of view. I found Holly Thompson's writing style very interesting, and love the way she wrote a story with a flow, and each character's mini story was intertwined with the many other characters in the book.
