This is one of the sweetest books I've read in a long time and who doesn't love Helen Oxenbury's illustrations? Charley gets a new puppy and expresses how he can't wait to take on all the responsibilities so when the new puppy howls and cries because his bed is in the kitchen, Charley tenderly coos, talks and comforts the little fella just like a new parent. This book is a real tenderizer. Loved it! Henry is very excited about his new puppy, Charley and Henry's parents are very clear on how things will be with Charley. They make sure Henry knows who will take care of Charley and where Charley will sleep. Unfortunately, Charley doesn't like sleeping alone in the kitchen. Henry tries to help Charley adjust to his new home, telling him often so he will know it is his home. A sweet story with lovely illustrations.
Charlie is one lucky dog, because Henry is one terrific kid. Got a little weepy with this one.
