Angie Smith is a hilarious, self-deprecating writer who speaks from the heart while imparting important theological lessons to her reader - a pretty unusual combination if I do say so myself. I really appreciated her honesty and her thoughts about how we chase God with our good intentions, instead of resting in his love and mercy. Angie's willingness to be transparent about difficult situations in her life moved me to tears, because those are the times when it is heart breaking to thank God for the sorrow and yet we know he is using it for our good. In the end, she encourages us to seek him by waiting and listening for his voice, not by creating to-do requirements for ourselves that actually get in the way of our relationship with Christ. I look forward to reading more of her books very soon. From the moment I started to read "Chasing God" by Angie Smith, I thought "wow, this woman knows me...she is speaking to me". If you are interested in getting closer to God, if you like sitting down for a good theological discussion with a friend and don't mind some tongue in cheek humor along with it, this is the book for you. If you enjoy being challenged - this book is for you. If you enjoy critical thinking about yourself and your relationship with God - this book is for you. If you just enjoy spiritual reading that makes you stop and think - this book is for you. Personally, I think is a book for anyone who wants a closer relationship with God. It is at once so simple, so basic, that you wonder why you've never had these thoughts.Spend some time with Angie. I guarantee she will give you pause for thought. In the introduction she talks about the difference between "following God and chasing God". On page 3 she already had me thinking "well now...I never thought about it in quite that way". I found myself underlining and adding comments in the margins. This is a book to read and mull over and it is also one I would like to share with others. It would be good for faith-based book clubs and church groups. I loved this book and would definitely recommend it. I received this book for my honest review from the Amazon Vine program.
