I won this book from a free giveaway on Goodreads.I enjoyed the sweetness of the story I read about Esther Cherrett. I had not read this author before, but I think I would pick up another of her books at some point. The concept of the a midwife moving from an eastern edge to the hills of Virginia in 1842 was intriguing. I found the story a bit naive at times and the main character seemed to put herself in stupid situations, though she was a smart, educated woman, but overall she was likable. I do recommend it for those whwo enjoy to read biblical-based romances. CHOICES OF THE HEART is the third installment in the Midwives Series by Laurie Alice Eakes. Though it wasn’t as good as HEART’S SAFE PASSAGE, it was still enjoyable.Esther Cherrett is a trained midwife ready to follow in her mother’s footsteps. But when she becomes the center of a town scandal, she flees her home and takes the job of a teacher in the Virginia mountains. Once there, she realizes she has found herself in the middle of an ongoing family feud, one that has already taken too many lives. When she finds out two cousins– Griff and Zach –have vowed to end the feud, she has hope. But what she didn’t know was Griff and Zach’s mothers not only brought her to their compound to teach their kids, but to give their sons her as a future wife. Since choosing one cousin over the other could ignite the feud all over again, she tries to keep her feelings to herself. But someone doesn’t want Esther around, and is fueling the feud between these two families in hopes that she’ll leave.CHOICES OF THE HEART was a good read, but dragged on a bit in the middle. I also don’t like it when a heroine constantly refers to something in her past as being the reason she is the way she is, but the reader doesn’t really get the full back story until almost the end of the book. The persistent referencing to something we as readers know so little about gets stale after a while. The last quarter of the book took things up a notch, making the ending more satisfying then I thought it would be. Overall, it’s good. But my favorite in the series by far is HEART’S SAFE PASSAGE.Available January 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.Book provided for review purposes.
