This is a great science fiction title to suggest to Percy Jackson and Harry Potter fans: it has lots of action, a main character who never looks before she leaps, and kids with special abilities in a special spot just for them: in this case, a traveling intergalactic circus. The writing is solid, not spectacular, but the story is tightly plotted and readers will definitely relate to the main character, flaws and all. Beatrix always knew she was special, but she didn't know how special. When she blows her chance to participate in the gymnastics meet that will hopefully get her a college scholarship, she know she's got to find another way to escape her mundane life. She ends up running away with the circus. Only this isn't your run of the mill circus, this is The Circus Galacticus, the circus of the stars. No, it's not the stars of Hollywood fame, it's the stars of the universe fame. Get ready for wide ride through the universe with a wild array of unique characters! AH
