The author is a good writer in that she knows how to properly write a narrative. The problem was her characters were totally unbelievable. I found absolutely nothing attractive or redeemable about a lead "Dom" who likes to watch his Sub hurt or be in pain. From what I understand if that lifestyle, the pain is closely associated with pleasure, but between the caning, paddling, whipping and book burning it was all just too much. And no woman would ever put up with that for a lifetime. Sorry. I'm not buying what you're selling!!! I struggled with whether or not to give this 4 or 5 stars. I think I'm going to do a 4.5 but round up. The half star could have been achieved had the book held my absolute attention throughout. That being said, the book was fabulous. I thought this would be strictly erotica but quickly discovered how much of a romance there is between Nell and Jeremy. There are times when reading books like this (harder-core BDSM/TPE type of relationship) that I get angry by the way the D or s acts and then I have to stop for a second and remind myself that these characters fight differently than vanilla characters. They argue about different things and something one of them does might come off as intense but it does fit who they are. There were a few things Jeremy did that I just didn't like, regardless of what type of relationship they have. Sex was hot, story was good, characters pretty well developed & unique. Recommended.

It was not bad, I just did not connect with the characters.
