Como Conquistar Al Diablo (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

This was a lovely book. I enjoyed the interaction between the h&h very much and loved how their story ended. Everyone got what they deserved and then some! Hilarious what happens to the old Laird! I thought the chemistry between the h&h was amazing and I loved their journey as a couple and within themselves. I loved how they really watched how the other one was with other people and that was a big part of why they fell in love...Admiration. It was sweet and touching how they really were kindred souls, always giving up for others out of duty and responsibility and never taking for themselves. The ending was so powerful. Loved, loved, loved this book. FYI, explicit intimacy means adults only in this book. A-. 4.5 Stars!!!What a wonderful story teller Teresa Medeiros. I am never disappointed when reading one of her novels. I had read this when it came out but forgot much of what the story was. So this is a re-read.Great plot, great tension, great characters, lots of twists and turns and a hea to leave me smiling!Emma Marlow is a strong, sassy heroine who has agreed to marry an old, moldering toothless Earl (The Hepburn) to save her family from ruin. She first appears as a weak, quiet, shy obedient girl standing at the alter next to her bridegroom who is a foot shorter than her with knobby knees.Sweeping in is Jamie Sinclair who steals the Earl's bride....seems his family, The Sinclair s, used to be the rightful owner of the title and lands that the Hepburn now owns. His plan is to hold her for ransom and then return her to the Earl when it is paid. It seems that Jamie's Grandfather Ramsey Sinclair raised Jamie because his mother, the Sinclare's daughter and his father, The Hepburn's son had run off together, and had Jamie out of wedlock. So not only is there hatred between these two families because of the stealing of the castle hundreds of years ago, but the anger and stain of Jamie's parentage....and the fact that they, Lainie & Gordon, the last hope at reconciliation of these two families had been murdered when Jamie was just a baby.Jamie and Emma spend time together, becoming attracted to each other....Emma feels she must survive and go back to marry the Earl so that her father will not end up in debtors prison and her sisters will have a chance to marry someone with a bright future instead of becoming servants. Thus the Angst...Because she and Jamie can not keep their hands off each other. And despite warning her not to fall for him that she is only bate for a ransom....she finds herself fighting that emotion....Jamie is also torn and we really feel his anguish over having to give her up in the end. This is where the story takes on a life of it's own....secrets are revealed and we realize this is not your typical..."Highlands steal the bride fall in love and live happily ever after." This story is so much more complex as we find out the history of what happened in the past and how that changes the present. What seems like an impossible love story slowly evolves into a suspenseful tale with plenty of "Ahas!" We all know in Historical Romance...and heck, maybe even in real life that those Highland men can be stubborn. No disappointments here. Jamie is rugged, angry, possessive and so stubborn you will want to kosh him over the head as does Emma! But Emma has to be strong enough to go after her man and boy does she. She has grown into a fearless woman who knows what she wants. What would I do differently? book is fun, interesting, well written and has characters you like and enjoy. When you turn the last page you are left with a smile on their face. A fun read.
