Confessions Of A Closet Master Baker (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
I really wanted to like this book, really, I did. But, I didn't. Not very much. This book is written by Sandra Bullock's sister, who left Hollywood because she hated it, and opened her own bakery. It started out okay, but it really didn't flow for me. Plus she is ornery and contradictory and it comes across in her writing. Some parts were funny and sweet, but over all I got nothing out of it. Plus, at the end, she doesn't seem all that much happier than she was in Hollywood. Going as far as saying that she would tell other people not to open their own store- do something else. Meh. I really liked this memoir, bonus recipes(!), detailing the move from Hollywood exec to professional baker. I loved the vicarious peek into the kitchen and how the gorgeous pastries, breads, cakes, etc get created and how early you have to get up to do it. If you're looking for scoop on Sandra Bullock, this one isn't for you, which was another reason I enjoyed it. As someone who daydreams about the potentials of rural living, this was a great read.
